Masters of Forest Science

SarahHettemaHeadshot.jpg

Sarah Hettema is a graduate student pursuing a M.S. in Forest Sciences. She is researching fuel treatment effectiveness, burn severity, and extreme fire events along the Front Range. Her interest in fire ecology came from a love of science, connection to forested ecosystems, and witnessing the impacts of extreme fires in her home state of California. Prior to grad school, she earned a B.S. in Environmental Sciences from UC Berkeley and worked with NASA DEVELOP applying geospatial data to a range of environmental issues. With her time at CSU, she hopes to build upon her skill set and better understand the field of fire ecology.

Outside of research, Sarah enjoys a range of outdoor activities, baking, and playing water polo.
